If you follow youtubeus, or “instagrammers”, you certainly know the loving earth chocolates. They attracted me so much, so i tried them and today i’m going to tell you all i thought about them !
Well… it’s been a while since I planned to do this article. Except that I hadn’t yet tasted these loving earth chocolates. Many youtubers / bloggers / instagrammers have talked about them, so I was pretty sure that they were going to be very good and that I would only have positive reviews… I thought I’d show the inside of these chocolates closer Loving Earth. That I will show the packaging… because that’s what I want to see before buying products (even and especially chocolate haha !!!). So I thought it was a good article idea. Making a review, about vegan and healthy food that are kind of popular you know ? Yesterday I finally tasted these famous Loving Earth chocolates and i was disappointed.
Who is Loving Earth ?
It is an online store of raw chocolates and cereals that debuted in 2007 in Australia. “At Loving Earth, we love real raw, organic, and quality chocolate. We also love our planet and the small producer communities we work with. But what we love above all else is our raw ingredients. We turn them into delicious products like our chocolates and our cereals. “. It’s a healthy, sustainable and fair brand. The brand is called loving earth but i tend to call them loving earth chocolates haha !
Small disclaimer / scenario :
First, I’m a little sad (ain’t gonna lie) about the fact that i don’t love these Loving earth chocolates. I was expecting everything but that. The brand looks really nice, the packaging is beautiful and my favorite youtubers / bloggers / instagrammers love them !! So it’s strange to have a feeling so different from others. In addition, as I said, the brand looks cool so it bothers me for them… But I’m here to share my genuine and objective opinion.
I ordered these chocolates from “Place à la nature”. (a vegan online grocery store). I wanted to test them to see what it really worthed and make an article (which is pretty cool for a chocolate fan!). Order received in late October and since, (it’s now the beginning of december…) stored at home in my cupboards. It’s actually been a while, but it’s because I ordered them along with some Halloween treats… I was so excited to taste them, you have no idea ! So finally, this week I decided with my mother and my brother to test them… I will first tell you what I like and what I don’t in general and then I will talk about each chocolate that i tasted !
What I like :
Let’s start with the positive. The packaging is beautiful, and furthermore, they are reusable. They don’t have a lot of ingredients and they are great. Organic, and no refined sugar or high glycemic index, which is perfect for my acne! (It’s because of my acne that I started this lifestyle, to remember you !!). And, to be honest… they do taste quite original…
What I don’t like :
First of all, they are quite expensive (maybe due to the quality of the ingredients). Depending on the taste you’ll choose, the 30g format will cost approximately £1.46 (€1.99), and the 80g format (which is the largest format..not huge) is (approximately) £3.33 (5.75 €). For a little pleasure from time to time why not. Otherwise, for a daily pleasure, it’s quite expensive, right ?
Then the texture. As I explained to you in my Instagram story, it looks like you’re eating hard coconut oil (not the taste, just the texture). For chocolate, it is generally expected to be melting. The heart-shaped ones were more melting, but it was not instantaneous. (I hope you see what I mean haha !).
SALTED CARAMEL SWAYZEE :
This is the first I tasted… and… I don’t even know what to say ! It does not have the taste of salted caramel at all. Its texture does not melt in the mouth at all. The smell of cocoa butter is strong, really (I don’t dare to say it too much, but I think it does not smell really good…). We are not complicated when it comes to chocolate, but yeah…my brother did not even finish his square… In fact, it seems that there is too much cocoa butter (this is also the first ingredient marked on the ingredients list). It is strong in chocolate and leaves a bitter and sweet taste at the same time. I don’t understand.
LEMON CARAMEL :
At first, there’s a strong taste of cocoa butter, and a feeling of “fat”. We smell a light lemon flavor. It melts more in the mouth than the others. He is not bad. Certainly still not up to my expectations (compared to all the good things we hear about this brand of chocolate Loving Earth), but not bad.
It melts quite hard in the mouth. It’s not the most creamy chocolate I’ve tasted, but it’s not bad (again, considering the price and its reputation, we don’t expect just a “not bad”). It may be the one I preferred tho.
Despite a strong taste of cocoa butter at first (again), it then becomes softer. It melts slowly in the mouth. On the other hand, it does not have the taste of caramel and because of the cocoa butter, it leaves a feeling of “fat” once again.
My conclusion :
- Maybe the problem was the flavors I chose.
- Maybe, because they’re made with “different” ingredients (than norma) we shouldn’t expect the same taste as usual. In my opinion, there is too much virgin cocoa butter and coconut syrup (I have already tasted it, and the taste is rather strange, and not very pleasant, but it stay subjective I think !). In addition, they are quickly sickening. I just tasted one bit of each and I was nauseated haha.
- Maybe it’s because I stored it for a long time at home before tasting it (even tho the expiry date is not outdated).
I don’t know, but in any case, I was disappointed with this chocolate and disappointed to be disappointed by this chocolate. It’s a little extra what I say, but it’s true. (And then understand me, I usually LOVE CHOCOLATE !!!!). Cause everyone loves them, I now feel that i’m the weird one, or that I came across a bad batch… Really I don’t know. It shocks me so much that I can not convince myself that this is my final opinion ! I’m trying to find excuses haha ! These Loving Earth chocolates are not bad, but not worthy of my expectations (is that mean ? i hope it’s nope… I’m sorry…).
I don’t advise you either not to buy them, because you must make your own opinion and also tell me what you think hihi. I’m not saying that this chocolate is not good, i just think that it’s not the best (for example I prefer one from the brand “artisans du monde” which i think is french, but it’s the best vegan chocolate i’ve tasted yet). Loving Earth’s chocolates ain’t disgusting… It is especially the “salted caramel swayzee” that I was most disappointed. And believe me, having to say that makes me sad.
